07:00 start to make the 36 miles to St Cast. NW winds, cloudy but fine. The tide was against us for the last couple of hours, so a bit roly but OK. Arrived 15.30.
We had to wait til the last minute to put out the ropes and fenders as the sea was turbulent. St Cast is a popular seaside resort so there were lots of small craft in the bay to dodge. The tide was quite low making the harbour wall look enormous. There was a very useful sign saying where the visitors pontoon was and which pontoon numbers to use depending on the size of your boat. Unfortunately the numbers were very small for middle aged eyes and we overshot, but eventually got in OK, despite the wind.
St Cast marina is very new and the facilities were excellent. The jetty to shore was very steep at low water.
There is a walkway into the town from the marina, which hugs the coastline and takes about 20 minutes.
We stumbled upon a Beach Volley Ball tournament and there was lots of music and audience participation. It made a very colourful spectacle.
The town itself has old and new properties which blend well. The main street is attractive and lively, with quite a diverse range of shops for a seaside town.
I loved this seaside villa property, which was right on the beach. St Cast is a lovely family holiday resort, with a large gently sloping beach.
Info: 30 Euros per night. Carrefour City supermarket in the town behind the main street. Market day was Monday, it was a seasonal market so I thought it would not be too big but it stretched along half the promenade, into a square and half the main high street so was worth the walk.
